The Orthodox Church Fathers have provided valuable insights and teachings on overcoming sin and guilt.

St. John Chrysostom (349-407): Known for his eloquent preaching, St. John Chrysostom emphasised the importance of repentance and the transformative power of God's grace. He taught that through sincere repentance and the sacrament of confession, one could find forgiveness and liberation from the bondage of sin.

St. Gregory of Nyssa (335-395): St. Gregory of Nyssa focused on the concept of theosis, the process of becoming one with God. He believed that through a life of virtue and asceticism, individuals could participate in the divine nature and overcome the passions that lead to sin.

St. Basil the Great (329-379): St. Basil emphasised cultivating virtue and developing a solid spiritual life to combat sin. He believed that one could attain spiritual growth and overcome sinful inclinations through regular prayer, fasting, and the study of Scripture.

St. John Cassian (360-435): St. John Cassian is known for his teachings on asceticism and the struggle against sin. He emphasised the need for self-discipline and vigilance, particularly in combating the thoughts and desires that lead to sinful actions. He also emphasised the significance of God's grace in overcoming sin.

St. Maximus the Confessor (580-662): St. Maximus the Confessor delved deeply into the human struggle with sin and the path to spiritual perfection. He taught that the passions must be ordered appropriately and directed toward God to achieve spiritual union and deification. He also emphasised the significance of the incarnation of Christ in providing the means for humanity's salvation and deliverance from sin.

These Church Fathers and many others provide a rich resource of spiritual wisdom and guidance on overcoming sin and guilt within the Orthodox tradition. Their teachings emphasised the importance of repentance, prayer, asceticism, the sacraments, and reliance on God's grace as critical elements in spiritual transformation.
